What is Gyal?

Since 2015, the Soka brand has been redefining antiquated standards of beauty by empowering Women of the Global Majority to celebrate their heritage. We have always taken pride in being an eco-friendly, body positive brand and now, we are giving back to the community by establishing a girl empowerment movement named ‘Soka Gyal.’ 

Gyal’s mission is to encourage the Caribbean woman to be bold and to create opportunities which enable her to achieve her highest potential. This mission will be fulfilled by creating female-led regional networks where girls and young women can share ideas, experiences, and skills. 


Gyal offers a safe space for skills enhancement with programs in the arts, leadership, entrepreneurship, and wellness for girls of secondary school age and beyond.


Gyal aims to break the cycle of poverty by consciously putting girls and women at the center of community development and revitalization. It is about creating a new foundation of community agency in a culture that values ethical, entrepreneurial, creative Caribbean women leaders. Gyal focuses on creating opportunities, developing self-confidence and interpersonal skills, making ethical decisions and healthy life choices, thriving academically, embracing leadership, and having the ability to  support girls’ safe passage to enter college, the workforce, and creating their own business as fully prepared and connected adults.


 Our program model addresses the specific developmental needs of adolescence, and young adulthood. 


Through part proceed sales from our merchandise branded SokaGyal, Gyal will provide opportunities for these girls/women through Education, Networking and Mentorship and also the ability to adopt classes throughout the Caribbean.
